Lumbeat Family

A groove that does not stay in one app

Version 5.00 connects Funk Drummer to the rest of the family. Start on a funk kit and, a few seconds later, have that same groove as percussion in AfroLatin, or as a bass line under it in iBassist. It goes the other way just as easily, out of a percussion part and into the drums. Nothing is pasted from one app to the next: the app receiving it reads the pattern and plays it in its own style, on its own instrument.

Grooves and Live Pad Sets reach any Lumbeat app you have installed, not just the recent ones. Songs travel between Pop Drummer, Soft Drummer, AfroLatin and iBassist. And it is not only a standalone trick: inside a DAW the plugins pass grooves to each other in the same host, with no file in between. Writing, producing or playing live, one rhythmic idea stops belonging to a single app, and a full backing track stops meaning starting from nothing three times over.

App to app, on the same device

Tap Send Groove and pick another Lumbeat app. The receiving app analyzes the data and adapts the rhythm to its own style and drum kit, so a funk groove arrives as a conga part in AfroLatin, or as a bass line in iBassist. How far it goes depends on the receiving app's jam intensity.

By file, to anyone

The share button makes a real file that travels through the standard iOS share sheet: AirDrop, Mail, Messages, Save to Files. The two devices do not need the same Apple ID and nobody has to be signed in to anything. Tap the file and the app opens with the content ready to keep or try.

What travels

Three kinds of file, one gesture

What gets sent depends on what you are doing when you tap share. The panel title says so before it leaves.

Groove

Every drum track including the crash, at its original time signature, plus the groove's name and swing. Tempo stays yours, so it plays at the tempo you are working at.

Song

Every part with its complete groove and settings, plus the song's name, tempo and swing. Song mode turns on by itself at the other end.

Live Pad Set

Every filled pad: pattern, name, position on the grid, color, time signature and jam amount, plus the groove you had loaded when you shared it.

On the receiving side

You decide where it lands

When a groove arrives, the app opens with a dialog: the name in an editable field, and the choice of which bank to save it in, or Save to New Bank, named after what arrived. You can also load it without saving, or discard it and keep playing what you had.

If the groove is already in your library, matched by its actual pattern and not just by its name, the app says so instead of asking you to save a duplicate.

A song arrives with a count of how many parts it has and how many grooves are genuinely new to you, since a song that reuses the same groove across parts does not duplicate it. A Live Pad Set opens the pads panel with everything laid out, ready to play.

Worth knowing

The honest limits

A file opens in the app that made it. A groove shared from Funk Drummer opens in Funk Drummer, one from Soft Drummer opens in Soft Drummer. The person receiving it needs that same app installed, and for Live Pad Set files, a version recent enough to know about them.

No account, no sync. This is plain file sharing. It is not iCloud sync and it does not touch your iCloud backup.

Grooves, songs and Live Pad Sets. Sound sets do not travel this way.

Inside a DAW it works too. Lumbeat plugins pass grooves and sets to each other without files, plugin to plugin, in the same host.
